Biography of Joseph V. Zary
CCC Man, Pennsylvania
LST-516, Normandy, USN
My father, Joseph V. Zary served with the CCC. My dad graduated Penn State in 1932 with a degree in forestry, and worked with the ccc in several capacities. I guess the best part about the whole deal was meeting my mom in Lock Haven, PA, marrying 06 May1943 just before he shipped out to England aboard LST 516 (also known as a Large Slow-moving Target). He then spent his civilian career in the Forest Service and Soil Conservation Service after the war. - Steve Zary
